Cake ingredients

  • 2 c all purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ c sugar
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ stick butter, melted
  • ¼ tsp maple extract
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Frosting ingredients

  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 5 tbs maple syrup
  • ¼ tsp maple extract
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 c powdered sugar


  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease a 12 capacity muffin tin or line the holes with paper cases.
  2. In a bowl combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. Whisk the buttermilk with the eggs and melted cooled butter until smooth.
  4. Beat in the extracts.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until just blended. Do not over mix.
  6. Spoon the mixture into prepared muffin tin.
  7. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
  8. To make the frosting, cream the butter until pale and fluffy.
  9. Beat in the syrup and extracts.
  10. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating well, until you reach your desired taste and texture.
  11. Pipe the frosting onto the fully cooled cupcakes and decorate as desired.
